The Overtown Optimist Club (OOC) was founded in 1993 as a volunteer based organization, designed to help the inner city youth through sports. Since then, it has evolved into an organization that provides an array of services to the community. Services span beyond sports and simply keeping the youth off the street. Building life changing relationships is the catalyst of our program; in the classroom and beyond.
Today the OOC provides academic enrichment, supplemented by sport, the arts and life skills instructions as a means for developing the skills necessary for creative academic and personal success.
- To keep youth off city streets and engaged in productive activities that instill self-pride and discipline.
-To provide opportunities for youth to improve their academic performance and help them make choices that enrich, rather than endanger their lives.
-To provide opportunities for youth to go to college, to the workforce and obtain academic and athletic scholarships or the skills necessary to make constructive choices.
